AN ACOUSTIC ANALYSIS OF THE SOUND DISTORTION IN RELATION TO THE PALATAL PLATE THICKNESS

Abstract
This study was performed to analyze th sound distortions fo lowing the alternation of the palatal plates.
For this study, 4 informants (3 males, 1 female, each age, 24- year-old), who were born in Seoul were selected from K university, and 3 type palateal plates were fabrical ed, each palatal thickness being about 1.0 mm, 2. 5 mm, c entoaloveolar portion 2.5 mm and elsewhere, 1.0 mm, named B, C, D type respectively, and informants¢¥s sound of / } , I , T, , 1 , Al / were recorded in 4 conditions. A series of analyses were adminstered througl a 16 bit IBM PC/AT, using linear combination method.
The finding led to the following conclusions:
1) There were similarities in the 3 analyzing methods, especially there were more similar changes in the euclidian cepstral and log area ratio methods.
2) G vnerally, / 1 / was the most distorted in all conditions, a specially most distorted in the D type, however, there were no evident differences in the 3 types of plates.
3) There were more alternations of the sound in the female informant, and it was found, after insertion of each plate, that all sounds were distorted in any plate.
